| Commercial Play Equipment
- Case Study |
 |
| Background: a junior school came to us to ask
us to provide a new play area for their pupils. They had
an existing fort structure which was very popular but getting
old and not fully compliant with modern standards. |
 |
| |
 |
| Our brief: The school already had a traditonal
clubhouse based play system so we were asked to design a
new area which incorporated design themes from the "fort"
concept yet which combined practical play zones, modern components
and a natural look. Ideally the equipment should be capable
of being expanded in the future. |
 |
| Our proposal: we used our
standard clubhouses as the corner points for a new fort structure,
with bridges and monkey bars connecting the play decks together,
and with bottom clubhouses to create little dens inside the
fort. To complete the illusion of "impregnability" the bridges
were underfilled to create a solid barrier. Climbing ladders,
rock walls and netting was added. |
 |
| |
 |
| In order to fit the budget we were asked to
reduce the clubhouse sizes from extended to standard, and
to make a three cornered unit so a final corner and connections
could be added in time. |
 |
| A plan of the new version was presented and
approved, and the job was completed within 3 weeks of order. |
